To ensure the proper installation of a corrosion coupon in a pressure pipeline, it is important to follow a step-by-step procedure while taking necessary safety precautions. Begin by wearing safety glasses to protect your eyes during the installation process.
Open the dispenser in an upward direction and connect the extractor and the pump using a hose. Position the pump for installation and press it until the connecting rod is fully extended.
Attach the plug-in and hanging piece onto the connecting rod. Then, turn the pump to the "retrieve" position and release the pressure until all the hanging pieces are safely returned to the retrieval device.
Remove the safety cap and install the maintenance valve onto the fixing device.
Lift the retrieval device and place it onto the maintenance valve. Secure it by screwing the impact nut tightly onto the maintenance valve.
Turn the pump back to the "installation position" to prepare for the pressure balancing step.
Balance the pressure on both sides of the maintenance valve depending on the type of valve being used.
a. For a standard maintenance valve, slowly open the bypass valve, allowing the pressure in the retrieval device to rise and match the pressure in the pipeline. This can be monitored using the pressure gauge.
b. In the case of a double ball seal maintenance valve, start by slowly opening the bypass valve of the upper ball valve. Then, open the upper ball valve itself. Next, gradually open the bypass valve of the lower ball valve. This step-by-step process will bring the pressure in the retrieval device to match the pressure in the pipeline.
If the pressure on both sides cannot be balanced, it may indicate the presence of dirt in the bypass valve, causing difficulty in opening the maintenance valve. In such cases, it might be necessary to remove the dirt or debris. Additionally, when the pipeline pressure exceeds 50 bar, it may be required to equalize the pressure gradually to prevent any sudden pressure surges.
