Cleaner selection basis
Pig selection is a multi-objective and multi-factor decision-making problem. We mainly need to determine the mechanical strength, wear resistance, adsorption, reactivity and passing capacity of the transport medium in the pipeline. details as follows:
1) Pigging goals.
Whether the pipeline is cleaned of liquid or solid impurity dirt, predict the amount of dirt. As expected, there are more sediment impurities. Natural gas pipelines can choose pigs with discharge holes. Gas blows the sand through the weep holes to avoid clogging.
2) Pipeline lifecycle phases.
New pipelines are cleaned of residues, preliminary measurement, pressure test, drying, and trial operation. Running piping is clean of wax deposits and dirt, media isolation, corrosion inhibition. Pipeline shutdown and scrapping are medium removal and inert gas filling.
3) Determine the characteristics of the driving medium (oil, water, gas) for pigging.
4) The interference of the pig.
Consider the minimum bending radius and bending angle of the pipeline, the minimum and maximum inner diameter, branch pipeline connections, and elevation changes along the line. And the type, location, size, etc. of valves/tees/elbows along the line.
5) Pigging process.
The driving pressure range value provided by the pipeline (the maximum allowable operating pressure of the pipeline, the operating pressure of the pipeline, and the change of temperature parameters). As well as the range of possible speed values for pig operation and the maximum distance the pig needs to travel.
6) Dimensions of steel brushes and scrapers for pig installation.
Consider comprehensively the thickness of the wax deposit in the pipeline and the driving force range.
7) The mechanical strength, wear resistance and reactivity of the pig in contact with the medium in the pipeline.
The development trend of pigs is to adapt to the pigging requirements of long-distance station intervals. This has higher requirements on the configuration of the pig’s cup, the strength of the cup and the quality of the transmitter.
